Solution

The correct option is A 80
Say:
We will solve the given problem using rods and units and by breaking down the numbers into Tens and Ones.

Steps:
  • The number of dolls is 46 fewer than teddy Bears, which means there are 46 more teddy bears than dolls. So, to find the number of teddy bears, we will add 46 and the number of dolls.
  • So, the number of dolls, i.e., 34 is broken down into 3 Tens and 4 Ones, represented by 3 rods and 4 units.
  • And 46 is broken down into 4 Tens and 6 Ones, represented by 4 rods and 6 units.
  • Add the Ones first, i.e., 4 + 6 = 10
  • Next, add the Tens, 30 + 40 = 70
  • Further, regroup and add the Tens and Ones, i.e., 70 + 10 = 80, represented by 8 rods.
  • Thus, there are 80 teddy bears in the store.
  • Hence, option B is the answer.
WB: If required, use the whiteboard to break down the numbers and draw rods and units to solve the equation as shown.
