Solution

Let the speed of the train be xkmph

The time taken by the train to travel 180km is 180xh

The increased speed is x+9

The time taken is 180x+9

According to the question,

The time taken is 180x1

180x1=180x+9

180xx=180x+9

180xx2+16809x=180x

x2+9x1680=0

x2+45x36x1680=0

x(x+45)36(x+45)=0

x=36,45

Speed cannot be negative (In this case,)

So The speed of the train is 36kmph
