Question

A train travels a distance of 340 km at a uniform speed. If the speed had been 3 km/h less, then it would have taken 2 hours more to cover the same distance. We need to find the speed of the train.

Open in App
Solution

Let uniform speed of train be x km/h.

So, time taken to cover a distance of 340 km=340x h

Now, reduced speed of train = (x3)km/h

So, time taken to cover the distance of 340=340(x3)

According to the question

(340x3)(340x)=2

340(1(x3)1x)=2

By Solving we get, x(x3)=510

x23x510=0x=24.13 km/hr
