A transformer converts 200 V ac into 2000 V ac. Calculate the number of turns in the secondary if the primary has 10 turns.

Solution

The voltage in primary or secondary coil of a transformer is proportional to the number of turns in the coil.
Hence $\frac{V_{s}}{V_{p}} = \frac{N_{s}}{N_{p}}$
where $V_{s}, N_{s}$ are the voltage and number of turns in secondary coil respectively.
$V_{p}, N_{p}$ are the voltage and number of turns in primary coil respectively.
Hence $\frac{2000}{200} = \frac{N_{s}}{10}$
$⟹ N_{s} = 100$ turns
