Question

A transformer is used to convert 200VACto11VAC .Number of turns in the primary of transformer is 2000.How many turns are there in its secondary? if the efficiency of the transformer is 90%and it can work at maximum load of 10W. Calculate output power and output current.

Solution

Step1: Given data and assumptions:

Input voltage Ep=200Volts

Output Voltage Es=11Volts

Number of turns in primary of transformer Np=2000

Efficiency of the transformer η=90%

Input power Pinput=10W

Step2: Finding the number of turn in the secondary coil

Byusingtherelation:EsEp=NsNp11200=Ns2000Ns=11×2000200Ns=110

Hence, number of turns in secondary coil is 110.

Step3: Finding the output power

Efficiency

η=Outputpower(Poutput)InputPower(Pinput)×10090=Poutput10×100Poutput=90×10100Poutput=9W

Hence, the output power is 9W.

Step 4: Finding output current

OutputpowerPoutput=Es×Ioutput9=11×IoutputIoutput=911Ioutput=0.82A

Hence, output current is 0.82A.
