Question

A transformer r=12 is connected to 220V a.c. supply. What is its output potential?

Open in App
Solution

Step-1 Given data

The primary or input potential Ep=220volts

And r=12

Where r is the ratio of number of turns in secondary coil Ns to number of turns in primary coil Np

i.e. r=NsNp

Step-2 Finding output potential

By using the relation

EsEp=NsNp

Where

Es=secondarypotentialoroutputpotentialEp=primarypotentialorinputpotentialNs=NumberofturnsinsecondarycoilNp=Numberofturnsinprimarycoil

Now,

Es220=NsNp=rEs220=12Es=12×220Es=2640volts

Hence, output potential is 2640volts.
