Question

A transmitting antenna at the top of a tower has a height of 32 m and the height of the receving antenna is 50 m. What is the maximum distance between them, for satisfactory communication in Line of Sight (LOS) mode? ( Radius of earth = 6400 km)

Solution

Given height of,
Trasmitting antenna (hT)=32m
Reciveing antenna (hR)=50m
and radius of earth (RE)=6.4×106m
In line of sight (LOS) communication, maximum distance of communication (dmax) is given by :
dmax=2hTRE+2hRRE
putting values ,
dmax=2×32×6.4×106+2×50×6.4×106
=(409.6+640)×103m
dmax45.54 km
