Question

A transverse wave of amplitude 0.01 m and frequency 500 Hz is travelling along a stretched string with a speed of 200m/s. Find the displacement of a particle at a distance of 0.7 m from the origin after 0.01s. Also find the phase difference between the point where wave reaches from the origin

Solution

Given: a=0.01 m
n=500 Hz
v=200m/s
V=nλ
λ=Vn=200500=0.4
y=asin(2π(tTxλ))
=0.01sin[2π(0.01×5000.70.4)]
=0.01sin[2π(51.75)]
=0.01sin[180×132]=0.01sin1170
=0.01sin(3×360+90)=0.01sin90
y=0.01 m
ϕ=2πT×t
=2π×500×0.01
ϕ=10π
