A triangle and a parallelogram have the same base and same area. If the sides of the triangle are 26 cm, 28 cm and 30 cm and the parallelogram stands on the base 28 cm, find the height of the parallelogram.
12 cm
The triangle and the parallelogram lie on the same base of 28 cm. The other sides of the triangle are 26 cm and 30 cm.
Semi-perimeter of the triangle:
s=(a+b+c)2=(26+28+30)2=842=42 cm.
Area of Triangle
ar(△)=√s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c) =√42(42−26)(42−28)(42−30) =√42×16×14×12 =√14×3×16×14×3×4ar(△)=14×3×4×2=336 cm2
Since, ar(△)=ar(parallelogram)=336 cm2
Let, Base of Paralellogram = bp=28 cm
Height of Paralellogram = hp
∴ar(parallelogram)=bp×hp
bp×hp=336⇒hp=33628 cm2=12 cm
Height of Paralellogram is 12 cm.
