$NaAl{O}_2+2H_{2}O\to NaOH+Al(OH{)}_2$

the bauxite is purified to yield a white powder , aluminum oxide , from which aluminum can be extracted . the extraction is done by electrolysis. But first the aluminum oxide must be made molten. So that electricity can pass through it.
