A truck is travelling with a speed of 20ms-1 whereas a car is travelling with the speed of 36kmh-1. Which of the two is travelling faster?

  2. Between two moving bodies, the body having greater speed is considered faster than the other body.

Speed of truck = 20ms-1

Speed of car = 36kmh-1

Step 2: Formula used:

1kmh-1=1km1hsince,1km=1000mand1h=3600sPuttingthesevalues,weget1kmh-1=1000m3600s1kmh-1=1000m3600sAftersimplifying,weget1kmh-1=518ms-1

Step 3: Calculation of the speed of the car in m s-1:

Speedofcar=36kmh-1=36×518ms-1=2×5ms-1=10ms-1

Now, we have the speed of the truck = 20ms-1

Here, we see that

Therefore, the truck is travelling faster than the car.
