Question

A tuning fork of frequency 200 Hz is vibrating with a sonometer wire to produce 10 beats/sec. When the tension in the sonometer wire is increased, beat frequency decreases. Original frequency of the sonometer wire in Hz is

Open in App
Solution

Given that, initially,
|f1f2|=10 Hz
& f2=200 Hz

where f1= original frequency of sonometer wire
f2= frequency of tuning fork

When tension in sonometer wire is increased, new frequency f1>f1
[since fTμ]

Since beat frequency decreases, we can say that, f2>f1 initially
f1=20010=190 Hz
