From eq2 ⇒a=3+b Now put the value of a in eq 1
⇒(3+b)×b=40 ⇒b2+3b=40 ⇒b2+3b−40=0
Now factorizing the equation ⇒b2+8b−5b−40=0 b(b+8)−5(b+8)=0 ⇒(b+8)(b−5)=0 We have two values of b ⇒b=−8,5
