A typical flower which has ovary placed superior with respect to the other floral organs is called hypogynous. The other floral organs are attached below the ovary to the receptacle. Epigynous flowers have an inferior ovary.

When there are male, female and bisexual flowers on the same plants then it is termed as polygamous plant. Mango is an example of this plant.

Perigynous flowers are the ones in which gynoecium stays in the centre and other parts of the flower are located on the rim of the thalamus almost at the same level. The ovary is said to be half inferior. Eg: Rose, peach.

When the thalamus completely encloses the ovary and fuses with the ovary wall and sepals, petals and stamens seem to arise above the ovary, the flower is said to be epigynous.
