Given,
Height of cylinder=h,
Radius of cylinder=r,

The free body diagram of the problem is shown below. Let f is the friction force acting on the cylinder.


The cylinder will slide if
mgsinθ>f

mgsinθ>μN

mgsinθ>μmgcosθ

tanθ>μ....(1)

Condition for toppling:
The cylinder will topple if anticlockwise moment of force mgsinθ will be greater than the clockwise moment of the force mgcosθ about point O as shown in figure.

tanθ>2rh....(2)

Thus, the condition of sliding is tanθ>μ and condition of toppling is tanθ>2rh.

So, the cylinder will slide before toppling if
μ<2rh
