Question

A uniform disc rolls without slipping on a rough horizontal surface with uniform angular velocity. Point O is the centre of disc and P is point on disc as shown in figure. In each situation of column I a statement is given and the corresponding results are given in column II. Match the statements in column I with the results in column II.

Solution

Here Point P rotates about point O with a uniform angular velocity as the body a uniform angular velocity.
(A)The velocity of point P always tangential to the trajectory of point P. so it always changes is direction not the magnitude.
(B) As the trajectory of point P is a circle about pointO the acceleration of point P always directed to the centre from this point.
(C) As there is no tangential acceleration for a uniform circular motion the pointP has no tangential acceleration.
(D) Point of contact is in uniform and circular motion.
(i) So, it has an acceleration directed towards centre from it.
(ii) It has an acceleration of non-zeros magnitude and always same in magnitude.
