Question

A uniform field of 2.0NC1 exists in space in x-direction. If the potential at the origin is taken to be 100V, what will be the expression for the potential at a general point?

Solution

The intensity of the electric field is E=2 N/C in x-direction.
If potential at origin is $100v,

The potential difference can be expressed as:
ΔV=E.x
V100=2x
So, the general expression for voltage is
V=2x+100

=1002x.
