Let 13 of length Lis, x that is x=13L,

Step 2. Finding the force equation and Solving

Assuming the mass of the chain to be m,

A uniform metal chain is placed on a rough table such that one end of chain  hangs down over the edge of the table. When one - third of its length hangs

Since one-third of the chain is hanging, the mass of the hanging chain is m3,

Two- third of the chain is on the table, the mass of the chain on the table is 2m3,

The balancing equation of force on the chain will be,

m3g-μ2m3g=0m3g=μ2m3gμ=m3g2m3gμ=12

On solving, we get μ=12

Hence, option E is correct.
