Let the initial length be L0 and area be A

Using Hooke's law, FA=Yll

Here tension is acting force on the rod,

TA=Yll

Step 2. Solving for initial length:

In the first case, tension is T1 and corresponding length of the rod is L1,

T1A=YL1-L0L0 1

In the second case, tension is T2 and corresponding length of the rod is L2,

T2A=YL2-L0L0 2

Dividing equation 1 with equation 2, we get

T1T2=L1-L0L2-L0

T1L2-L0=T2L1-L0
