Question

A uniform slab of dimension 10cm×10cm×1cm is kept between two heat reservoirs at temperatures100C and 900C . The larger surface areas touch the reservoirs . The thermal conductivity of the material is 0.80W/m0C . Find the amount of heat flowing through the slab per second.

Solution

Given : K=0.80 W/moC ΔT=9010=80oC
Length through which heat is flowing l=1 cm=0.01 m
Cross-sectional area A=10×10 cm2=102 m2
Heat flowing per second Q=KAΔTl
Q=0.8×102×800.01=36 J/s
