Let the required unit vector in the xy-plane be
r=xi+yj|r|=x2+y2=1x2+y2=1 ...(1)
Since angle between r and vector i+j is 45o and the angle between r and vector 3i4j is 60o,
cos45o=(xi+yj).(i+j)xi+yji+j and cos60o=(xi+yj).(3i4j)xi+yj3i4j
x+y=1 ...(2)
and 3x4y=52 ...(3)
There exists no real value of x and y satisfying equation (1), (2) and (3).
Hence, correct option is D.
