a) Fertilisers contain nitrate, phosphate and potassium which are heavy metals and when used in fertilisation for long period causes soil pollution. They are taken up by crops and results in poor yield. These metals are easily leached out from the soil and causes contamination of surface and groundwater. High concentrations of these substances in water is a threat to human and animal health.
b) Water pollution leads to soil pollution. This statement can be justified by the fact that when water is polluted, it contains certain toxic substances and when this water is used in irrigation purposes, it goes to the soil along with the harmful substances. Thus, causes soil pollution. Polluted water can pass into the soil by several other means as well.
