A verandah $2m$ wide is constructed all around a room of dimensions $8m\times 5m$. Find the area of the verandah.

In a parallelogram, opposite angles are equal.

Since $\angle A={70}^o\ne \angle C={65}^o$

Hence quadrilateral ABCD is not a parallelogram

Area of room$=AB\times BC=8m\times 5m=40m^2$

Area of room along with verandah$=$area of the rectangle PQRS$=QR\times RS=9m\times 12m=108m^2$

$\therefore$ Area of verandah$=$Area of rectangle PQRS$-$area of rectangle ABCD$={108}^o{m}^2-40m^2=68m^2$.
