Question

A vertical metal cylinder of radius 2cm and length 2m is fixed at the lower end and a load of 100kg is put on it. Find (a) the stress (b) the strain and (c) the compression of the cylinder. Young modulus of the metal = 2×1011Nm2

Open in App
Solution

Stress=ForceArea = 10003.14×0.02×0.02=0.1273N/m2
for strain there should be young's modulus constant proided.
And hence the compersion.
So, letting the young modulus be Y.
StrainStressY=0.1273Y.
