Question

A vertical pole of height 5.60 m casts a shadow of length 3.20 m on the horizontal earth surface. Under the similar conditions and at the same time, find the vertical height of the pole which casts a shadow of length 5 m is 8.75

If true then enter 1 and if false then enter 0

Solution

The length of shadow is directly proportional to the height of the vertical pole.

Let a be the height of the pole whose shadow is of length 5m

So,
3.20:5=5.6:a

Applying the rule, product of extremes = product of means

3.2×a=5×5.6

a=5×5.63.2

a=8.75

Hence, the height of pole whose shadow is of length 5m is 8.75m
