Question

A wall of length 10 m is to be built across an open ground. The height of the wall is 5 m and thickness of the wall is 42 cm. If this wall is to be built with brick of dimensions 24 cm×12 cm×10 cm, then how many bricks would be required?

Solution

Length of the wall, l=10m=100cm
Breadth of the wall, b=42m=4200cm
Height of the wall, g=5m=500cm
Volume of the wall=l×b×h=100cm×4200cm×50cm=21000000cm3
Dimension of the brick=42cm×12cm×10cm
Volume of each brick=42cm×12cm×10cm=5040cm3
Let the number of bricks required be n.
n×volume of each brick=Volume of the wall
Therefore, n=vol of the wall/vol of each brick
n=210000005040
n=4166.67
Thus, the number of brick required is 4166.67.
