A wave disturbance in a medium is described by y(x , t)= 0.02 cos (50 π t + π2) cos (10 πx) where x and y are in metre and t in second
An antinode occurs at x = 0.3 m
y(x , t)= 0.02 cos (10 π x) cos (50 π t + π2)
At node , amplitude = 0
⇒ cos(10 πx) = 0 ⇒ 10 πx = π2 , 3π2
⇒ x = 120 = 0.05 m , 0.15 m ..
At antinode , amplitude is maximum
⇒ cos (10 πx) = ± 1 ⇒ x = 0 , π, 2π
⇒ x = 0 , 0.1m, 0.2 m ..
Now λ = 2 × Distance between two nodes or antinodes
= 2 × 0.1= 0.2 m and 2πvtλ = 50 π t
v = 25 λ = 25 ×0.2=5ms−1
