Question

A wave is propagating along x axis. The displacement of the particles of the medium in z direction at t = 0 is given by z=e(x+2)2 "x" is in metres. At t=1s, the same disturbance is given by z=e(x2)2. Find magnitude and direction of wave propagation velocity.

Solution

1.Magnitude of velocity

at t=0 , x+vt=x+2 vt=2

at t=1 sec, x-v(1-t)=x-2v=4m/sec

2. Direction the wave is moving in Positive direction .
