Question

A well of diameter 20 cm fully penetrates a confined aquifer. After a long period of pumping at a rate of 2720 L/min, the observations of drawdown taken at 10 m and 100 m distances from the centre of the well are found to be 3 m and 0.5 m respectively. The transmissivity of the aquifer is ________.

Solution

The correct option is B 576 m2/day
Transmissivity,
T=k.D
where,
k= coefficient of permeability
D= Depth of Aquifer
T=Qln(r2r1)2π(h2h1)

Given,

Q=2720 L/min
=2.72 m3/min
=272×24×60 m3/day
=3916.8 m3/day

At r1=10 m,drawdown d1=3 m
At r2=100 m,drawdown d2=0.5 m

and
(h2h1)=(d1d2)
=2.5 m

T=Qln(r2r1)2π(h2h1)

=3916.8ln(10010)2π×2.5

=574.44 m2/day
