Question

a well of diameter 6m and depth 30m is dug in a field.the earth taken out from the well is spread over a rectangular ground of dimensions 45m*22m .Find the level of ground rise

Open in App
Solution

Given Diameter of well = 6m so radius r = 3 m

Depth of the well h = 30 m

We know well shape is like cylinder so volume of earth dug out from the well we can calculate by calculating volume of cylinder.

Volume of earth dug out from the well = πr2h=
(22/7)×
30=848.2m3

Rectangular gound dimensions are 45m*22m

Let x be the level by which ground rise

So volume of earth spred on rectangular ground = Length * Breadth * Height = 45*22*x = 990xm3

Volume of earth spread on rectangular field = Volume of earth dug out

990xm3 = 848.2m3

x = 848.2/990

x =0.856 m

Answer : The level of ground rise by 0.856 m
