(a) What do you mean by neutralisation?
(b) What are the causes of acid rain?
(a) The reaction between an acid and a base is called neutralisation. In this process, salt and water are formed with the evolution of heat.
Acid + Base ➝ Salt + Water + (heat is evolved)
(b) Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain.
