Solution

(a)

A chemical equation is the symbolic representation of a chemical reaction in the form of symbols and formulae, wherein the reactant entities are given on the left-hand side and the product entities on the right-hand side.
Eg.
2 H subscript 2 plus O subscript 2 rightwards arrow 2 H subscript 2 O

(b)

A chemical equation in which the numbers of atoms of each element are same on both the reactant and product sides is said to be a Balanced Chemical equation.

e.g. N2(g)+3H2(g)2NH3(g)

Nitrogen Hydrogen Ammonia

There are two nitrogen atoms and six hydrogen atoms on both the reactants and products’ side.

On the other hand, a chemical equation in which the number of atoms of each elements are not same on both the reactant and product side is said to be unbalanced chemically.

e.g. N2(g)+H2(g)NH3(g)

There are two nitrogen and two hydrogen atoms on reactant’s side and one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms on product’s side.

(c)
(i)

N H subscript 3 rightwards arrow N subscript 2 plus H subscript 2

Balance the number of N atom on both sides, then the number of H atoms. We get,

2 N H subscript 3 rightwards arrow N subscript 2 plus 3 H subscript 2

(ii)

C plus C O subscript 2 rightwards arrow C O

Balance the number of O atoms, we get the balanced equation.

C plus C O subscript 2 rightwards arrow 2 C O
