a) Diseases that occur due to deficiency of nutrients in the body is known as deficiency disease. Kwashiorkor, rickets, pellagra are some examples of deficiency diseases.(2 marks)

b) Symptoms of protein deficiency: Stunted growth, discolouration of hair and diarrhoea. (1 mark)
Symptoms of carbohydrate deficiency: Weak body and low energy. (1 mark)
Symptoms of fat deficiency: Weak body, increase in hair fall and dry skin. (1 mark)
