Solution
a) Ecological succession is the process of gradual change in the species structure of an ecological community over the time. The pioneer species are the species which are first to colonise at an area and the begin with a chain of ecological succession that ultimately leads to a more biodiverse steady-state ecosystem.
b) The answer is represented in the image. The pyramid of number for grassland ecosystem is upright. The number of organisms decreases with increase in the trophic level.
c) The nutrient cycles are the biogeochemical cycles which involve the recycling of the nutrients. The two types of nutrient cycles are the gaseous cycle and sedimentation cycle. The example of the gaseous cycle is carbon and nitrogen cycle. The example of sedimentation cycle is the phosphorous cycle.
