Solution

(a) The aim of the experiment is to prove that the heat is evolved in the process of respiration which is performed by the germinating seeds.
(b) There is rise in the temperature and the level of mercury rises up. The heat in the process is recorded by the thermometer.
(c) The heat is the energy which is released during the process of respiration. The germinating seeds respire in which glucose is broken down and the energy is released which is liberated in the form of heat.
(d) The seeds are kept moist in this experiment. Moisture is required for the seeds to perform respiration. If the seeds are dry, there will be no respiration and the results of the experiment will not be accurate.
