Solution

a) A saturated solution is composed of the maximum amount of solutes that can be dissolved in a solvent at a given temperature. A supersaturated solution is composed of more than the amount of solutes that can be dissolved in a solvent at the same temperature. This is the main difference between saturated and supersaturated solution.

b) Add some amount of salt into the water. Stir the mixture so that salt dissolves in water. Continue adding salt with continuous stirring until salt stops dissolving. Such a solution, which contains more amount of solute than that is required to saturate it, is known as a supersaturated solution.
