Density Relative density

i. Mass per unit volume of a substance is called density.
ii. Density = mass/volume
iii.
SI unit of density is Kg/m3 and CGS unit of density is g/cm3

i. The ratio between the density of a substance and the density of water is called relative density.
ii.
Relative density = Density of the substance/density of water at 4C
iii.
Relative density has no units because it is the ratio between the similar physical quantities (density).

(b) Relative Density = Density of objectDensity of water

Density of object = Relative Density × Density of water = 7.1 × 1000 = 7100 kg/m3
