Solution

(a) Applications of Avogadro’s Law :

  1. It explainsGay-Lussac’s law.
  2. It determines the atomicity of the gases.
  3. It determines themolecular formulaof a gaseous compound.
  4. It determines the relation between molecular mass and vapour density of a gas.
  5. It gives the relationship between gram molecular mass and gram molecular volume of gas.

(b) According to Avogadro’s law under the same conditions of temperature and pressure, equal volumes of different gases have the same number of molecules. Since substances react in a simple ratio by a number of molecules, volumes of the gaseous reactants and products will also bear a simple ratio to one another. This is what Gay Lussac’s Law says.

H2(g)1 Vol+Cl2(g)1 Vols2HCl(g)2 Vols (By Gay-Lussac's law).

n molecules + n molecules give 2n molecules (By Avogadro's law)
