Solution

(a) The process by which water is lost in the form of water vapour from the surface of the leaves through stomata. It provides a cooling effect to the plant.

(b) Plants have pipe-like vessels to transport water and nutrients from the soil and food from leaves to other parts of the plant. The vessels are made of special tissues called xylem and phloem. These tissue together forms the vascular bundle.

Xylem- The xylem forms a continuous network of channels that connects roots to the leaves through the stem and branches and thus transports water to the entire plant. Phloem- The food has to be transported to all parts of the plant. This is done by the vascular tissue called the phloem.
