(a) Sulphuric acid’s high affinity for water accounts for its use as a dehydrating agent.

(b) Oxidizing agent

S + 2H2SO4 (conc) = 3 S O2+2H2O


Non-volatile acid:
NaNO3+H2SO4 (conc) = Na2S4+2HNO3
