A whole number is increased by 7 and the new number so obtained is multiplied by 5; the result is 45. Find the number.

Let's the required whole number = x

and it is incresed by 7 and multiplied by 5 = 5(x + 7)

then it is equals to 45
= 5(x + 7) = 45 (1 mark)

5(x + 7) = 45Transpose the 5 on RHSx + 7 = 455 =9 (1 mark)Now, transpose the 7 on RHSx = 9 7 =2 (1 mark)

So, the required number = 2
