(a) Why do people need a protected drinking water scheme?
(b) Why is wastewater aerated?
(a) People need a protected drinking water scheme for the purpose of health. Water is polluting due to release of chemicals into the river lakes by the chemical factories. So, people can't use the water as it is, so it is mandatory to have a drinking water scheme.
(b) Aeration in an activated sludge process is accomplished by pumping air into the tank or lagoon. Proper aeration promotes the growth of microorganisms or microbes in the wastewater. The microbes feed on the organic pollutants and form flocs which can easily settle out.
