Given here is a diagram for the technique of gel electrophoresis in which the band of DNA is separated on the basis of the size of the strands.
  • The DNA segments which are thinner move forward as they can pass through the sieves of the agar-agar Matrix.
As we can see in the diagram there are four different bands.
  • The DNA is negatively charged so it moves towards the positively charged anode, therefore, the anode and is the right side of the diagram i.e B end.
In the Bands, the DNA fragments move forward because they are thinner in size as compared to the bands above them, and they can move through the matrix of the agar-agar as they are thin in size.
  • E represents the standard band.
