Question

A wire is in the shape of rectangle its length is 40cm and breadth is 22cm. If the same wire is given the shape of square what will be the measure of each side? Also find which rectangular or square encloses more area.

Length of rectangle =40cm

Breadth of rectangle =22cm

Perimeter of rectangle =2(l+b)=2(40+22)=2×62=124cm

Area of rectangle =40×22=880cm2

Now, Perimeter of rectangle = Perimeter of square

Let side of the square be a

4a=124

a=1244=31cm

Hence, area of square =31×31=961cm2

Thus, square enclosed more area.
