Adrenal gland can be divided into two parts:
  • Adrenal cortex and
  • Adrenal medulla
Adrenal cortex further has three layers:
  • Zona glomerulosa
  • Zona fasciculata
  • Zona reticularis
Zona reticularis region secretes adrenal androgens. In women, it is the major source of androgens. In females, adrenal androgens cause suppression of feminine characters. Hence, its hypersecretion can result in development of beard and moustache.
