Question

A wooden box of weight 140 N is kept on a table. The area of cross-section of the box is 5 m². Calculate the pressure exerted by the box on the table.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Force (F) weight of the box = 140N

Area (A) of the cross-section = 5m²

Step 2: Formula used

Pressure is given as,

pressure=forceareaP=FA

Step 3: Finding pressure

Putting all the values, we get

P=1405=28Nm-2=28Pa.

Hence, the pressure exerted by the box on the table is 28Pa.
