Inital length of the wooden plank
= Length of the same length pieces + Length of the longer piece

= 3 $\times$ 90 cm + Length of the longer piece
=270 cm + Length of the longer piece

Also,
Length of the longer piece
= 3 $\times$ Length of the shorter piece
= 3 $\times$ 90 cm
= 270 cm

Therefore,
Inital length of the wooden plank
= 270 + 270
= 540 cm

We know that 1 m = 100 cm

540 cm = 500 cm + 40 cm
