Let the fixed amount he charges be $x$ and the amount he charges per hour be $y$.

Given that,
he charged ₹ 5 when worked for an additional 2 hours.
$\Rightarrow x+2y=5$.....(i)

₹ 3 when worked for an additional 1 hour.
$\Rightarrow x+y=3$.....(ii)

Now,
subtracting (ii) from (i),
we get $y=2$.

Putting $y=2$ in (i),
we get $x=1$.

Thus,
Fixed charge is ₹ 1 and the variable charge is ₹ 2.
