Question

A young's double slit apparatus has slits separated by 0.25 mm and a screen 48 cm away from the slits. The whole apparatus is immersed in water and the slits are illuminated by the red light (λ=700 nm in vaccuum). Find the fringe width of the pattern formed on the screen (in mm)
(μw=43)(Integer only)

Open in App
Solution

Wavelength of light in water,
λ=λμ

Fringe width, β=λDd=λDμd

β=(700×109)(0.48)(43)(0.25×103)=103 m=1 mm

Hence, 1 is the correct answer.
