Question

A Young's double - slit experiment is performed using monochromatic light of wavelength λ. The intensity of light at a point on the screen, where the path difference is λ, is K units. Solution

In Young's double slit experiment, intensity at a point is given by

I=I0cos2ϕ2 ......(i)

where, ϕ= phase difference,

Using phase difference, ϕ=2πλ×path difference

For path difference λ, phase difference ϕ1=2π

For path difference, λ6, phase difference ϕ2=π3

Using equation (i),

I1I2=cos2(ϕ12)cos2(ϕ22)=cos22π2cos2(π6)

KI2=134=43I2=3K4=9K12

n=9
